Morgantown Riverfront Revitalization Task Force July 2021

Morgantown Riverfront Revitalization Task Force

Meeting Notes

July 15, 2021

  1. OLD BUSINESS
  1. Update on Mountaineer Heritage/South U Park
  • Ownership Application

Application was submitted to WVDOH with a response being received with a request for a survey, which will be the logical next step to pursue.

Rich Edwards, OEDC, stated that the OEDC supports the project and that transfer of ownership will mean greater funding opportunities.  OEDC is willing to provide tech support/funding for tech support.  Best chance of funding from OEDC would be a match. Having a concept/design plan and budget will make it easier to break down into practical phases, which will make the ‘ask’ easier.

Drew is going to coordinate with Rich to put together some estimates and logical phases for the project, building upon the conceptual design already presented to and approved by BOPARC.

  1. MUB Sewage Overflow Point Signs

Emily stated that work is underway for a much cheerier/softer sign design, which will be finalized this week or next.  Frank suggested moving signs off trail and down closer to the water.

  1. NEW BUSINESS
  1. Hazel Ruby McQuain Park Developments

Many compliments were received after the successful July 4th Celebration events, which drew in a crowd of roughly 6,000 folks.  Vincent stated that it was a learning curve and good tool to move forward with fine-tuning some details that often get overlooked when planning large events.  He mentioned other summer events and plans to focus on some upgrades which will include the addition of a mural under the bridge and other things.

  1. Deckers Creek Trail Paving

Bids came in lower than expected, so one additional section may be added for paving which will go from the HRMP park to the pedestrian bridge near Kroger in Sabraton.   Waiting for design from Thrasher for conduit for lighting.  Paving will definitely happen soon, as the money must be used within a set time frame.
