State inspection finds violations at Cheat Lake beach; facility to remain closed until repairs made

June 24, 2026A complaint inspection at Millstone Point Beach at Cheat Lake found multiple violations, and the facility will remain closed until repairs are made, according to the West Virginia Department of Health.

Millstone Point Beach is a bathing beach, with Lake Lynn Generation as the licensee. The inspection was conducted June 16, 2026, and the report documented four violations.

Inspectors also cited routine maintenance concerns, including a large hole in the sand and dirt in the beach area that was listed as a significant trip hazard. The report also notes multiple trip hazards around the water fountain and bathroom area, including water meters and drains.

The report also states the restroom facilities do not meet code requirements for a recreational water facility and that updates must occur before the facility resumes service.

The facility is closed until repairs can be made to the water lines supplying the park. A follow-up inspection was listed for Aug. 14, 2026.

West Virginia University’s 3 Rivers QUEST bacteriological monitoring program https://3riversquest.wvu.edu/

lists Cheat Lake at Millstone Point Beach as a monitored site and notes results are typically posted during the recreation season. On its Swim Guide page they state the beach has been closed for the remainder of the 2026 season due to a lack of potable water service needed to support required sanitary facilities.
