Three people still missing after boat capsizes on Monongahela River

RICES LANDING, PA

Aug 31, 2026

Last night at approximately 9:00 PM, the Rices Landing Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a boat vs. towboat accident on the Monongahela River.

A search for three people after a boat capsized in the Monongahela River has now become a recovery mission, the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission and Greene County emergency management officials said Monday afternoon.

Emergency crews at the scene near Rices Landing said two men and a woman remain missing, while a woman and a man are in the hospital in unknown condition after being rescued.

The U.S. Coast Guard said that a 24-foot cabin cruiser collided with a tugboat vessel Sunday night. That caused the cruiser to capsize. The boat was a fiberglass hull with an outboard motor. It was registered in Virginia and reportedly launched from a trailer near Fredericktown, PA.
